Eco Schools Green Flag Award

We are delighted with the achievement of our Eco-Committee members and whole school community on being awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction.

  • “Congratulations to Radnor House Sevenoaks! Your Eco-Schools work this year has been brilliant:
  • Delivering a Science Week and a new Gardening Club in your Prep School shows how committed you are to Biodiversity. The number and types of saplings that you’ve planted is incredible. They’ll have a huge impact on carbon capture for years to come. Your school and our planet will be better off for it!
  • The work of the Senior School was equally impressive. The group have become real eco-ambassadors. The collaboration on recycling with the school Catering Team, plus the creative way you’ve tapped into the school comms channels to inform your wider school community, shows a really mature and proactive group.
  • Radnor House Sevenoaks is certainly an Eco-Schools standard bearer and a more than deserved recipient of our Eco-Schools Distinction accreditation. Well done to all pupils involved and a big thank you to the school staff that have supported their amazing work!”  Adam Flint, Eco-Schools Manager

We are very excited and honoured to be recognised for all our efforts and ongoing ambition to ensure our school has a positive impact on our environment. We have been working hard to raise the profile of sustainability within our community.  Our students have been taking action in making a difference to the place they live and study, and encouraging everyone in the Radnor Community to do the same.

Our Head, Fraser Halliwell, says: “This is wonderful news and testimony to the outstanding effort and achievement of our Eco-Committee and whole school community in looking to actively protect our environment for which we care deeply.  We feel empowered in knowing that, by making a difference in our school, we are having a positive impact on larger, global issues such as climate change.  Thank you to Eco-Schools for recognising our ongoing efforts."

We are proud to share some of the fantastic feedback we received from Eco-Schools:

"It's brilliant to read that the Environmental Review helped your pupils to appreciate and celebrate everything that your school is already doing to benefit our environment whilst also enabling them to identify areas to work on in the future. We’re glad that it was a useful tool for you to pinpoint where you could make changes in your school – and as you say, small changes can make a big difference! The comments on your uploaded Environmental Review were thoughtful and gave our team a glimpse into the discussions that took place amongst committee members. Great work everyone!

Both your Prep School and Senior School Action Plans were put together after considering several factors – this is a considered approach which encourages great results! We love the variety of activities that you and your Eco-Committee have included in the Prep School Action Plan, including building bug hotels, appointing energy monitors and caring for plants. This wide range of projects has no doubt supported multi-disciplinary skills across all year groups and shows how integrated environmentalism is in your school. Your Senior School plans were similarly wide-ranging and impactful, from creating a campaign to reduce waste to improving biodiversity across your school site.

Your Curriculum Links are terrific! We love how you’ve creatively layered them across many different areas of the curriculum in such interesting and complimentary ways. By building on the projects you have worked on in your Eco-Schools topics, you have added real-world context to your Eco-Schools work, giving young people at your school the opportunity to learn about important environmental issues and then the chance to work on these issues – a great dual approach!

Thank you for uploading some data relating to energy usage – the figures speak for themselves, your efforts have led to a vast reduction in the amount of gas and electricity used across your school site, we are blown away by this!
