Future Ready At Radnor

At Radnor, we ensure our pupils are future-ready by providing comprehensive careers education at every level of the Senior School.

Year 7 and 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11

Year 7 and 8: Building Foundations

Students start by developing an understanding of the world of work and exploring various career areas. They also delve into personal finance, learning about saving, spending, budgeting, and the risks and consequences of financial decisions.

Year 9: Exploring Future Options

In Year 9, students begin to consider their future options, particularly focusing on their choice of GCSEs and potential career paths. They use the Fast Tomato online guidance tool to learn about different types of employment and understand how their strengths, attributes, and interests align with various career pathways.

Year 10: Developing Employment Skills

Lessons in Year 10 focus on the skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Students craft CVs and are taught vital presentation and networking skills. They can put these skills into practice at the annual Networking Event, where pupils from Years 10-13 meet and learn from established professionals, making valuable future contacts.

Year 11: Informed Career Choices

Year 11 students take The Cambridge Profile Aptitude Test, a psychometric assessment that provides neutral guidance on potential A-level options and future career paths.

Skill Development Beyond Academics

We recognise that employers seek not only academic excellence but also skills like critical thinking, oracy, leadership, and teamwork.
Our wide range of curricular and enrichment sessions helps pupils hone these in-demand skills:

  • Duke of Edinburgh Awards: Starting with the Bronze Award in Year 9, pupils progress through Silver and Gold in subsequent years.
  • Debating Club & Churchill Public Speaking Competition
  • T20 Programme: University-style lectures and tutorials focusing on theory of knowledge, current affairs, and discursive skills.
  • Work Experience Programme (Year 11): In partnership with the Medway Education Business Partnership.
  • Extensive Co-Curricular Programme: Offering a myriad of opportunities for all students to develop and excel.

At Radnor House, we equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to thrive in their future careers and beyond.
