An Adventurous Mindset

At Radnor, we recognise the importance of learning beyond the classroom.

We offer numerous opportunities for pupils to enhance their learning and discover a world beyond Sevenoaks.

Outdoor Education and Duke of Edinburgh Award

With 27 acres of grounds, including woodland, nature trails, and fields, we harness outdoor learning to develop resilience, perseverance, self-confidence, and teamwork. Our outdoor pursuits extend beyond acquiring skills, focusing on teamwork, risk-taking, leadership, and independence.

These experiences lay a strong foundation for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which becomes a significant part of the curriculum in Year 9. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a challenging programme for young people aged 14 to 25, encompassing five sections: volunteering, skills, physical, expedition, and residential. Radnor pupils typically start with the Bronze Award, with many continuing to complete their Silver and Gold Awards in later years. Throughout the programme, pupils are supported and guided by staff, and they complete their practice and qualifying expeditions with us.

Universities and employers increasingly value these softer skills, and we believe outdoor learning is crucial for helping pupils succeed in life while nurturing a love for the outdoors.

Make a Difference Day

During our annual Make a Difference Day, the school suspends lessons for one day to contribute to the local community. Each House organises various activities with community organisations and charities, allowing pupils to help with valuable work. This day demonstrates the immediate impact of collective effort and broadens our pupils' understanding of the local community and the world beyond.

Trips and Visits

Our diverse range of trips and visits, from academic enrichment to physical challenges, workshops, and cultural experiences, provides pupils with numerous opportunities to broaden their horizons and enhance their studies beyond Radnor’s grounds.

Speakers from various industries and backgrounds visit Radnor each term to provoke debate, challenge existing thinking, and offer insights. These sessions include artist workshops, author visits, wellbeing talks, sports skills development, and musical workshops.

We celebrate national and global events through regular themed days, sharing knowledge of different cultures. Events like Chinese New Year, Holocaust Day, Mental Health Awareness Day, Black History Month, and International Women’s Day are incorporated into the curriculum, and where appropriate, our catering team creates a special lunch menu to mark the occasion.
