A Right Royal Celebration: Year 1 and 2 Host a London-Themed Tea Party
To round off their engaging and educational ‘This is London’ archway curriculum topic, Year 1 and 2 pupils held a wonderful London-themed tea party — a fabulous finish to a term packed with discovery and creativity.
The children celebrated everything they had learnt about London and the Royal Family with a joyful afternoon of party games, sandwich-making, and of course, some delicious cake. The classrooms were filled with excitement as pupils arrived dressed in the colours of London, showing off red, white, and blue outfits with pride.
Over the course of the topic, the children have explored the capital city through the eyes of their lovable class companion, Lenny the Lion. Lenny led them on a journey through London's most famous landmarks, including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and the London Eye. They also took a deep dive into the history and traditions of the Royal Family, learning about King Charles III and past monarchs.
In addition, pupils explored the incredible stories of Florence Nightingale and the Great Fire of London — bringing history to life through creative lessons, storytelling, and hands-on activities. The topic encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and imagination, with children contributing their ideas, building models, and sharing their knowledge in class discussions.
The tea party was not only a celebration of their learning, but also a chance to practise important life skills — from preparing food and sharing with friends to showing appreciation for what they’ve achieved together.
It was a truly memorable afternoon, and a perfect way to end a brilliant topic. Well done, Year 1 and 2!
