Standing Up Against Bullying: Anti-Bullying Week 2024

Anti-Bullying Week 2024 has been a vital opportunity for our school to reflect on the importance of fostering safe and supportive environments. With the theme “Choose Respect,” closely aligned with one of our Core Values, we’ve engaged in meaningful discussions about how respect can guide our behaviour and relationships.

The focus this year has been on empowering individuals to speak out and take action against bullying in all its forms—a commitment that resonates deeply in our school community.

At Radnor House Prep, we understand that almost 1 in 4 pupils (23%) report being bullied, according to recent research. While we strive to ensure bullying is not an issue within our school, we remain mindful of the broader world and the experiences children may encounter outside of our environment.

Throughout the week, we’ve embraced a range of activities designed to raise awareness, promote kindness, empathy, and inclusion, and emphasise our Core Values. These principles are woven into every aspect of school life, complemented by the Round Square Discoveries, ensuring that bullying is not only addressed but actively prevented.

Highlights of Anti-Bullying Week 2024

Classroom Discussions and Resources: Teachers utilized engaging resources from the Anti-Bullying Alliance to facilitate thoughtful conversations and lessons.

Odd Socks Day: A school-wide favourite, this fun initiative allowed students and staff to celebrate individuality by proudly wearing odd socks.

Anti-Bullying Committee Assembly: Our newly formed Anti-Bullying Committee led Friday’s assembly, sharing their reasons for joining, their vision for the committee, and practical tips on how everyone can “Choose Respect.”

The Anti-Bullying Committee, under the guidance of Mrs Bliss, has been instrumental this week, working on class surveys about bullying, creating awareness posters, and brainstorming ideas for future initiatives.

In the Senior School: Sixth Formers played a key role in leading assemblies for the Lower School, Middle School, and their own Sixth Form peers, utilising resources from the Anti-Bullying Alliance to drive important discussions. Their leadership highlighted the importance of respect and anti-bullying efforts, fostering a culture of inclusion across year groups.

Joining the Prep School, Senior School pupils and staff enthusiastically participated in Odd Socks Day on both Tuesday and Friday, proudly wearing odd socks to celebrate individuality and reinforce their commitment to the message of Respect and the anti-bullying campaign.

These assemblies also served to promote leadership opportunities within the Senior School. As part of this initiative, one member of the newly formed leadership teams for each year group will join the Senior School Anti-Bullying Committee, launching in January. This committee will provide a platform for pupils to take an active role in shaping the school’s approach to tackling bullying and ensuring a supportive environment for everyone.

Anti-Bullying Week serves as a powerful reminder that each of us has a role to play in building a kinder, safer, and more inclusive community. By educating ourselves, supporting one another, and promoting respect, we take significant steps toward eradicating bullying. Together, let’s Choose Respect and continue striving for a world where everyone feels valued and safe.
