English Exploration Morning: A Celebration of Reading and Learning at Radnor House

English Exploration Morning: A Celebration of Reading and Learning at Radnor House

On Tuesday 8th October, Radnor House hosted an engaging English Exploration Morning for Prep School parents.

This special event offered parents the opportunity to join their children in classrooms for a shared reading session, promoting the importance of reading together. Additionally, Mrs. Lambert, our Director of Reading and Literature, was available in the Prep Library to offer insights and advice.

Mrs. Lambert later led a comprehensive talk for parents, focusing on how to nurture a lifelong love of reading in children. She highlighted the pivotal role reading plays in academic success, personal development, and social skills. Emphasising that reading is more than just decoding words on a page, Mrs. Lambert explored the value of developing comprehension, empathy, and critical thinking skills, which need to be fostered throughout life.

Following this, Miss Newick took the stage to discuss the English curriculum at Radnor House and how it is integrated into the Archway Curriculum. She explained the school's text-based approach to learning, which is being woven into curriculum planning. By teaching key literacy skills and transferring this knowledge into independent writing, Radnor House is equipping students to become confident readers and writers. Miss Newick also detailed how the English department is working to ensure the curriculum remains dynamic and responsive to the students' evolving needs.

To conclude the morning, parents were invited to visit classrooms throughout the Prep School to observe lessons and see firsthand how English is being taught. The atmosphere was vibrant, with students eager to share their work and learning experiences with their parents. The event provided a valuable window into the English curriculum and the daily experiences of students at Radnor House.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the parents who participated in this enriching morning. We hope it offered meaningful insights into our approach to English teaching and the vital role reading plays in a child's education.
