Radnor House Ski Trip: A Festive Adventure in Sestriere

Over the Christmas break, the Radnor House School community embarked on an unforgettable ski trip to Sestriere, Italy.
Under a mix of sunshine and clouds and amidst excellent snow conditions, 51 students of all skill levels took to the slopes with determination and enthusiasm. Beginners made impressive progress, confidently advancing to blue runs and even tackling some red runs. Meanwhile, the advanced groups displayed finesse with their carving techniques, earning admiration from peers and instructors alike.

The adventure extended beyond skiing, as students explored the picturesque alpine town of Sestriere. The festive atmosphere, twinkling lights, and charming local shops created a magical backdrop for the group’s evening activities. Highlights included a spirited town trail, which showcased the holiday charm of Sestriere, and a lively games night led by Mrs. Davey, featuring a crowd-favourite rendition of ‘Family Fortunes.’ A disco night brought everyone together, with both students and staff hitting the dance floor and sharing in the joy of the occasion.

One of the trip’s most memorable moments was the torchlight descent to Borgata, where all 51 students skied down the slopes, their paths illuminated by torches. This breathtaking event was followed by a celebratory presentation at the hotel, where individual and group achievements were recognised.

The daily ‘Fantastico Sci’ awards added an extra layer of excitement, honouring the best, most helpful, and most improved skiers. These awards fostered camaraderie, teamwork, and mutual encouragement among students, who consistently demonstrated kindness and support for one another throughout the trip.

The trip’s success was made possible by the dedication of the Radnor House staff: Mrs Davey, Mrs Read, Mr Barham, Mrs Robinson and Miss Kelly-Tarrant. Their tireless efforts to ensure safety, offer reassurance, and create a supportive environment both on and off the slopes were instrumental in making the experience so memorable.

The students not only honed their skiing skills but also exemplified the Radnor House spirit through their enthusiasm, teamwork and positive attitudes. Their conduct earned praise from locals and instructors, who commended them as outstanding representatives of the school.
As the trip came to a close, students left with treasured memories and a newfound passion for skiing—many inspired to pursue it as a lifelong hobby.
