Radnor House Sevenoaks Shines at the Tunbridge Wells Arts Festival
On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March, nineteen talented students from Radnor House Sevenoaks showcased their exceptional abilities at the prestigious Tunbridge Wells Arts Festival. Competing across 23 classes in four categories—Piano, Strings, Speech and Drama, Vocal and Choral—our students demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill, earning high praise from the judges.
We are delighted to announce that our students secured four first-place awards:
Speech and Drama Duologue (Years 7-9)
Speech and Drama Duologue (Years 10-13)
Singing - Musical Theatre (Years 7-9)
Piano - Grade 3
Several participants achieved outstanding scores, with some reaching an impressive 85/100, reflecting their hard work and passion. Even those who did not place in the top three received commendations for their performances, underscoring the depth of talent within our school community.
Since the weekend, we have been informed that three out of our four students who were placed first at the festival have been invited to the prestigious GEMS Concert to receive their cups, having scored the highest in their respective categories. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of their success!
Miss Barradell, our Director of Performing Arts, expressed her pride, stating:
“Often the learning of instruments, lines/lyrics and forming characters all goes on behind the closed doors of peripatetic lessons or in clubs, so when I asked staff to look at students and push them beyond their comfort zone to take on the challenge of festival entries I was thrilled that so many were selected. To be courageous and go against others unaware of their competition is mighty impressive. There are no league tables to look at, the category titles are often vague, and our students stepped on to stage in a category unsure of their competition. They humbly stood before adjudicators, having until this point only had constructive comments and praise from their teachers, and they embraced the vulnerability of the situation and took on board the feedback they got to improve further. Our performers are a credit to us - we are so very proud of them for taking the risk and learning from the experience and without the comfort of their peers or teacher beside them.”
This event not only highlights the individual talents of our students but also exemplifies the supportive and enriching environment at Radnor House Sevenoaks, where students are encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones and achieve excellence.
