Congratulations on becoming the 2024 Kill Team World Champion!
Can you tell us about the experience of competing at the world championships in Atlanta?
Dan: I was scheduled to go last year when I was in my final year of sixth form, but unfortunately, due to my age, I couldn't make it. It was great to have made it this year and to play in such a big event for a board game I love. What was it like representing England on such a prestigious stage? How did it feel to win the title?
Dan: It felt nice to represent a larger cause than myself. I had a lot of Brits cheering for me, especially in my finals match against a Spaniard. I'm overjoyed to have won! I never thought it would happen. When did you first start playing Warhammer, and what drew you to the game?
Dan: I first started playing in December 2022, when my dad invited me to join him at a tournament. What inspired you to start the Warhammer club at Radnor House Sevenoaks? How do you feel it impacted the school community?
Dan: I wanted to share my hobby with as many like-minded students as possible and introduce them to something they might enjoy as much as I did.Do you have any advice for students interested in starting their own Warhammer journey or strategy gaming?
Dan: Just go for it! If you practice enough and learn from your mistakes, you can make great things happen. How has Warhammer helped you develop skills, both in gaming and beyond?
Dan: It has helped me to think analytically and look at situations from a holistic point of view. Was there anyone who inspired or supported you in your journey—teachers, classmates, or family?
Dan: Everyone I told gave me supportive words. My girlfriend and former classmate Isobel gave me some very kind words, and friends and family helped me every step of the way. The teachers at Radnor who I told about my success gave me much congratulations, and that made it feel all the more rewarding. Now that you’ve achieved such an impressive milestone, what’s next for you in the world of Warhammer? Are there any other tournaments or goals on your horizon?
Dan: I think that helping other British players step up their game so we can play better as a team would be paramount. I want to see more British wins in international events! How did your time at Radnor House Sevenoaks shape you, both as a student and a gamer?
Dan: My time at Radnor was excellent. I enjoyed the friendly company and supportive staff. Such a wholesome environment made honing the skills necessary for my talent much easier.Do you have any special memories or experiences from your time at the school that you’d like to share?
Dan: I really enjoyed the end of sixth form ball. That is a memory I'll cherish forever. If you could play a Warhammer match against anyone in the world—real or fictional—who would it be, and why?
Dan: Magnus Carlsen, the world's best chess player. I'd be interested to know how well the skills translate. What advice would you give your younger self starting out in Warhammer?
Dan: Go for it! Finding something you're truly talented at is such a rewarding experience.
