Autumn Term highlights 2024

Autumn Term highlights 2024

The conclusion of the Autumn term has been marked by a series of uplifting and festive events, as students engaged in a range of nativities, carol services, and final assemblies. Furthermore, the Radnor Christmas dinner has gained a reputation of near mythical significance, and we all enjoyed Santa dropping in for a quick mince pie. Our highlight, however, was the Nursery nativity, all delivered within a tight 15-minute window - wonderful to see and very few tears!

Radnor's community service initiatives have been highly successful and well-supported this term. These activities include events such as Make a Difference Day, the PorchLight Sleep Out, the Big Climb, and Remembrance. Students understand the importance of their community and the role they play in supporting it.

The entire school community has warmly welcomed Mr. Godwin as the Head of Prep this term. Under his leadership, the junior section of Radnor continues to thrive, with a highly successful Under-11 hockey team, increasingly competitive chess teams, and impressive results in the cross-country event at Somerhill. Furthermore, a vast majority of the pupils are performing well above national averages in English and Mathematics. Overall, this provides a strong foundation for Mr. Godwin to continue developing in the years to come and we wish him every success in his endeavours.

Throughout the school, students have had the opportunity to participate in various trips and excursions this term. Four enthusiastic Lower Sixth students travelled to Colombia after applying in Year 11 to attend the Round Square Conference. Additionally, during the October half-term, several senior pupils visited Italy, while later in the term, our Year 1 and 2 pupils enjoyed a trip to Bedgebury. Today, the ski trip departs, and we all hope for snow!

The range of individual successes was equally impressive, with Harry in Year 4 crowned National Breaststroke Champion, Lilyia in Year 10 selected for English U16, Jamie and Thomas qualifying for the Mathematics Olympiad Kangaroo, and our recent leaver, Dan Barton, crowned global Warhammer Kill Team Champion! Even our very own Mr Pigeon did not want to miss out on individual glory as he published his debut novel, The Haunting of Hern Hall, to real critical acclaim.

Before announcing our new Student Leadership Team, we would like to acknowledge our outgoing Upper Sixth team and wish them success in their upcoming A-Level examinations. Specifically, Louis is stepping down as Head Student, and Jasmine, James, and Simon are handing over the Deputy Head roles. The new team consists of Evelyn and Oliver as Head Boy and Girl, with Millie, Josh, Liam, and Emily as Deputy Heads. Pranay and Olivia also started their roles as senior prefects in year 6 and are doing a great job.

After all that, we can hopefully excuse the teachers for a well-deserved break over Christmas and New Year before welcoming everyone back to Radnor on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
